I’m an international student from Japan. My study abroad experience so far is wonderful. I’m the first student to come to SCU from my university in Japan and I have never experienced living abroad for this long before. I clearly remembered that I felt nervous at first. When I first came to Lismore the first thing that hit me was the beautiful nature and beautiful sky. I was also surprised that people in Australia have so many different backgrounds, for example Australian and Italian or Australian and Indonesian… I have never experienced this kind of multi-culture in Japan.
Lismore is a nice and quiet city, lots of café and many small shops in the downtown. People are very kind. For me, it’s completely different from my city. Lismore is also good location. We can go to many beaches, such as Byron Bay and Gold Coast. In addition, Lismore has an airport to go to Sydney and two airports are located near Lismore which are Balina/Byron airport and Gold Coast Airport. We can go travel around Australia easily. I went to Gold Coast, Byron Bay, Ballina, Melbourne…
First, I joined EAP (English) Course at SCU College. I learned how to write reports and how to put references etc. It was a good preparation course to study at Uni later. Only Asian students such as China and Indonesia during that time. Once orientation week started, the situation was totally different for me because lots of European and American students were there, of course Australian students too. At first, I was struggling to take notes and listen to conversation at the same time in classes. Nowadays, I’m still struggling, but much better than the first few weeks. Both SCU College and University’s support systems, including academic support systems are great!
This picture above is horse-riding. I started it when I was almost a junior high school student. I hope that I will participate in the Paralympic Games in 2020, Tokyo. When I first came here and talk about it, many people encourage me to do that. I really appreciate it. I think many people at SCU and in Lismore know that fact - even people who I have never met before. I don’t know how but this also connects to my motivation. I’ll do my best and hopefully, it comes true!
Thank you for having this opportunity so far everyone! My study abroad experience is only one and a few weeks left. I definitely want to enjoy the rest of time in Australia!
